Report from Day 1 of the "Quinn Life PGA Charity Pro-Am", Slieve Russell Golf Club, Ballyconnell, County Cavan, Ireland - 21stMay 2001.
After a good drive from the first tee and a Pitching Wedge to the temporary green, Damien dropped a shot by three putting on this temporary green. [One over for round]. Hole 2, Par 4, 434 Yards. Drive slightly overshot into semi rough. Five iron missed the green to the left. Good wedge and putt to hold par. [One over for round]. Hole 3, Par 4, 398 Yards. Another solid par by Drive, eight iron and two putts. [One over for round]. Hole 4, Par 3, 167 Yards. Good eight iron to left side of pin, followed by a good putt to yield first birdie of the round. [Level Par for round]. Hole 5, Par 4, 436 Yards. Driver, six iron and two putts. [Level Par for round]. Hole 6, Par 5, 512 Yards. Driver, five wood just short of green on right, wedge, followed by two putts. [Level Par for round]. Hole 7, Par 3, 220 Yards. Good six iron off tee to left edge of green which is well below level of tee, followed by two putts to maintain par. [Level Par for round]. Hole 8, Par 4, 389 Yards. Three wood for position, followed by a nine iron which slightly overshot to left back of green, wedge and putt. [Level Par for round]. Hole 9, Par 5, 552 Yards. Disappointing drive off a double tee (to provide carry) went wrong and out left in the rough. Excellent six iron from the rough with perfect shape to the centre of the fairway, looking in at the green - an excellent recovery. Pitching wedge into green and one putt to provide second birdie of the round and bring the score to one under for first nine. [One under for round]. Hole 10, Par 4, 411 Yards. Drive, eight iron and two putts to hold par. [One under for round]. Hole 11, Par 3, 193 Yards. Four iron past pin to back of green (slight overshot) followed by two putts. [One under for round]. Hole 12, Par 4, 442 Yards. Driver, nine iron and two putts. [One under for round]. Hole 13, Par 5, 529 Yards. Great drive to left side of fairway. This hole runs around the right hand side of Lough Rud. Five wood to left side of green, just beyond pin, followed by two good putts to yield another birdie. [Two under for round]. Hole 14, Par 4, 374 Yards. Hooked three wood to trees just beyond the bend. Was very fortunate to find original ball (after playing provisional) in the trees with enough clearance to hit an excellent wedge out towards a blind green. Ball landed just short of left side of green. Unfortunate three putt to drop a shot after a good recovery shot from the trees. [One under for round]. Hole 15, Par 4, 453 Yards. Disappointing drive (didn't work to plan down left side) to right side of fairway, just clear of bunkers. Seven iron to lip of bunker, short of green, leaving a difficult wedge shot, standing in the bunker with ball well above stance. Two putts and drop another shot. Disappointing hole. [Level Par for round]. Hole 16, Par 3, 176 Yards. Seven iron off the tee which caught the bunker on left side of green, leaving a difficult bunker shot, due to shape of bunker. Excellent wedge bunker shot close to pin, folloed by solid putt for a good save. [Level Par for round]. Hole 17, Par 4, 399 Yards. Wayward drive found new trees off right side of fairway leaving a very difficult and tricky second shot. Punched a six iron out front to clear path for an excellent wedge to the green. Good putt to finish off a good save for this hole. [Level Par for round]. Hole 18, Par 5, 540 Yards. Great drive to carry big tree on left side of fairway, followed by a solid three wood just short of green. Two good putts to finish round on a birdie. [One under for round].
